Description | Maurice Gibb Memorial Park is located at 1700 Purdy Avenue in Miami Beach. On October 19, 2012, petroleum contamination was identified during excavation work in the southeast corner of Maurice Gibb Park. As a result, Miami Dade County required the City to fully delineate the soil and groundwater contamination on the park property and to remediate areas with elevated contaminant levels A renovation of the park became necessary as soil remediation is required over most of the park's surface. The City developed a new design for the park with input from the community, which details the layout of the park elements, including the playground equipment, new plant material, earthwork, new signage, and new park furnishings. The design provided new uses such as a Fishing Pier, an Overlook, a Dog Park, and picnic areas that will increase recreational activities within the park. The new design also includes raising the existing seawall and extending the living shoreline to address sea level rise concerns. The park area will also be raised to address the environmental condition. A renovation of the park became necessary as soil remediation is required over most of the park's surface.
