Description

Award Details Contract Award Date: Aug 26, 2022 Contract Award Number: W912EP22C0011 Task/Delivery Order Number: Contractor Awarded Unique Entity ID: WXBKMQ8RLLB5 Contractor Awarded Name: UNDERWATER MECHANIX SERVICES LLC Contractor Awarded Address: Jacksonville, FL 32218-3922 USA Base and All Options Value (Total Contract Value): $8231000.00 Notice ID W912EP22C0011 https://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville/news/2022/08/29/fishweir-creek-dredging.html Aug 29, 2022 A local commercial diving and marine construction company will be responsible for dredging the Big Fishweir and Little Fishwier creeks, an $8.2 million project that has been discussed for more than a decade. The project was awarded on Friday to Underwater Mechanix Services LLC, one of two companies that bid on the work. The project is slated to be complete by June 2023. The creeks -- tributaries of the St. Johns River -- are located near downtown, with Big Fishweir Creek entering the St. Johns River just north of the Ortega River. Urbanization and storm events have led to sediment covering the natural creek bottom, which the Army Corps of Engineers said has degraded the natural habitat: As a Class III body of water, the state says the waterway should be "swimmable and fishable," which it is not. "The overall goal of the project is to restore healthy aquatic habitat in the creek by providing ecological benefits including: the removal of sediment, restoration of habitat for manatees and other native species, removal of exotic vegetation, restoration of submerged and emergent aquatic vegetation, and restoration of wetlands," the Army Corps said. According to an agreement signed in 2018, the City of Jacksonville is responsible for 35% of the project cost, with the federal government picking up the rest. _________________________________________________________ Sol No: W912EP22R000 Magnitude of construction is between $5,000,000.00 and $10,000,000.00. Project work consists of dredging portions of the Big Fishweir Creek and Little Fishweir Creek. Dredged material from Little Fishweir Creek (STA.1+50 to STA. 9+57), the Channel Widener (STA. 33+19 to STA. 35+33.02) and the main channel (STA. 35+33.02 to STA. 55+38) shall be transported to and placed into Bartram Island Disposal Area into Cell B. Dredged material from the upper reaches of Big Fishweir Creek (STA. 1+00 to STA. 18+25) may be transported to and placed into Bartram Island Disposal Area Cell B or an approved upland disposal facility. Cell B is approximately 14 miles northeast of the project location. Prior to demobilization, dewater Cell B by pumping any effluent water into Cell B2. Work also includes turbidity monitoring, endangered species monitoring, vibration control monitoring, channel debris removal, and incidental related work as well as, coordination with JAXPORTs Hired Contractor for disposal in Bartram Island *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
