West Des Moines Parks Maintenance Facility Abatement, Demolition and UST Removal

The Project work includes Removal and abatement of asbestos-containing materials and regulated materials located in six designated on-site buildings. The asbestos abatement and removal of hazardous materials are being conducted in preparation for demolition of the structures. Asbestos abatement will include approximately 3,200 SF of asbestos containing materials in vibration joints, floor tile with black mastic and joint compounds, sealants and carpet glue; approximately 100 LF of window glazing and caulking and roofing tar and approximately 27 windows. Actual quantities may vary, especially if any asbestos containing materials are present in hidden and/or inaccessible areas not evaluated as part of the survey. Regulated materials include the following: polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) containing light ballasts and transformers, mercury-containing lighting and thermostats, and equipment containing ozone-depleting chemicals (refrigeration, cooling, etc.); Additional items requiring disposal or recycling include mechanical/electrical equipment, cleaning products, paint, other suspect metal containing items and door closers. Demolition of buildings, parking lots and miscellaneous items: Complete closure and removal of one 4,000-gallon diesel and one 6,000-gallon gasoline fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) underground storage tanks (USTs), associated FRP product piping and dispensers, vent lines, pump island, and ancillary appurtenance. Exploratory excavation of a possible UST identified during the ground penetrating radar survey.
