Description | The City of Independence is soliciting bids from qualified bidders for the service of picking up and disposing of dead animal carcasses within Independence, unincorporated areas of Jackson County and Jackson County's parks. Examples of outlying areas are Fleming Park, Lake Jacomo, Blue Springs Lake, Prarie Lee Lake, Longview Lake, and Blue and Grey park. This is an example and not the totality of locations covered. The successful bidder shall be awarded a one-year (1) contract with the possibility of four (4) one-year renewal periods. Contractor is to be available to be dispatched to pick up an assortment of animal carcasess and work with the Animal Services Division and complete the disposal process by placing the carcasses in the Animal Services incinerator or in an incinerator arranged by the contractor. Contractor has two (2) business days from notification to complete the pickup. Contractor would be provided the address which is sometimes an intersection or specific directions to the animal and the phone number of the reporting party if it is available. If the carcass is not at the address at the time of arrival, Contractor would still be compensated for their time. Contractor would be compensated on a per animal basis but also have a separate pay scale for deer carcasses. Contractor would need to arrange for staff to scan any dogs and cats for a microchip in order to reach a possible owner. The City will provide an incinerator for the disposal of the carcasses. Contractor could be granted access access Monday through Friday with the successful completion of a background check or may arrange to meet City staff on a set schedule. Examples of animal carcasess are deer, dogs, cats, possums, squirrels, skunks, rabbits, raccoons, birds with the occasional raccoon or fox. Deadline for questions is 5:00 p.m. local time on May 26, 2023. The City reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids or portions of bids, make multiple awards, to waive irregularities and technicalities, and to request re-bids on the materials or services described in the bid documents. The City reserves the right to award the contract on such materials or services as the City deems will best serve its interests. |
