Description

Mechanical removal of vegetation and substrate (soil) down to the limestone cap rock in the 8.5 Square Mile Area (SMA). The goal of this project is to ensure the South Florida Water Management District can maintain the entire 8.5 SMA as a stable, natural system and provide high-quality wildlife habitat in the region. It is expected that the project will create future habitat conditions and wetland functions that are greater than the existing degraded habitat. The project area is part of a critical buffer zone between Everglades National Park to the west and developed Miami-Dade land to the east.
