Description | Several locations had been discussed and or identified for the development of a City owned campground, including land near the Siouxland Expo Center. However, through a partnership with the Sioux City Railroad Museum, this is an opportunity to establish a campground facility within Siouxland on land near the museum. The proposed project site is approximately 16 acres and located along the Big Sioux River next to the Sioux City Railroad Museum. The proposed campground will be built to accommodate 52 motorhome and travel trailers (RV) campsites with the potential to serve between 316-474 campers. The pads would accommodate motorhomes, toyhaulers, campers, fifth-wheel trailers, and popup campers. Overnight tent camping would also be available on a 5-acre green space between the museum and riverbank. The Campground Development project would be developed in phases with the first phase land acquisition. The second phase grading, excavation, and installation of utilities. The third and final phase construction of the campground infrastructure to include roads, campsites, and a restroom/shower facility. This project is included in the fy 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program. As of May 31, 2023, further details regarding design and construction timelines have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
