Description | Consists of restoration and adaptive reuse of two existing, City-owned buildings at 36 Elm St. and 45 South St.; the construction of new multi-story building on an existing City-owned vacant lot at 25-33 South Street; and the construction of new parking structure on the rear portion of the lot at 25-33 South St. Construction of a new, multi-story building on an existing and currently vacant lot at 25-33 South Street envisioned to accommodate a range of uses (retail, restaurants, offices, residential dwellings) along the streetscape of South Street. Restoration of the existing building at 36 Elm Street to host a mix of residential and commercial uses including a training, demonstration, and learning kitchen on the 1st floor of the building where patrons can attain skills to prepare nutritious and delicious food from locally grown agricultural products. The kitchen will also provide the capacity to sell prepared foods for indoor and outdoor on-site dining. The remaining floors are envisioned to be a mix of residential dwellings and or office space. Restoration of the existing building at 45 South Street to accommodate a range of complementary uses including restaurants, cafes, boutiques, shops, offices, and residential dwellings. Additional parking through a new parking structure is envisioned for the rear portion of the existing lot at 25-33 South Street. The capacity to conveniently provide additional parking in a built structure adjacent to, or connected with, the Project area is fundamentally important to accommodation of the new uses within the referenced properties while at the same time providing increased capacity for the planned events, and festivals at the new community/market center building. In recognition of this public need, the City intends to use funds from the DRI grant or other resources to assist with the construction cost of the new parking structure. |
