Description

The crest of the dam is traversed by Navesink River Road, County Route 12A. Monmouth County bridge No. MT-23 spans the spillway. Stone masonry walls are located at both the upstream and downstream edges of the roadway. A foot bridge is adjacent to the road and spans across drop box. The on-stream pond is impounded by the dam, which has a rectangular concrete drop approximately 6 feet wide by 13 feet long by 11 feet deep. The spillway consists of a 6 foot long by 2 foot deep notch in the upstream crest with grooves for flashboards. Flow from the drop box passes under Navesink River Road through a brick and stone masonry culvert. The water level was dropped last year while doing repairs to the concrete around the spillway. Once the water level was dropped, it was discovered that the dam face was also eroded. The concrete face of the dam has eroded below the water line, see attached pictures. A line of concrete 3” to 6” deep across the face of the dam has become dislodged, exposing the steel reinforcement. The damage extends for approximately 35 on NE face and 45 LF on the west side of the spill way.
