Description | This facility is a 1400 square foot wooden structure with no attached roof. Walls consist of sheets of plywood and rubber, which sandwich a sand filled center, that collectively stop small arms rounds from escaping the facility. Remove and replace specified damaged wooden walls on range 75 (360 degree shoot house), by first removing the current photographic vinyl wrapping to expose and remove the 3” wood screws holding the plywood panels together. Only the identified square footage of wall on the attached diagram 1 should be replaced, but it may require a larger section of the wall to be removed in order to replace that segment. Sand, which fills the space between walls, will fall out as segments of walls are removed for repair. This sand filling must be replaced to maintain a height of 7 and ½ feet (90 inches) above the shoot house floor. It will be acceptable to reuse sand that came from the walls, however, if additional sand is required to meet the 90” requirement, the sand must be “BALLISTIC SAND ONLY”, or comparable. The sand must be tamped or settled adequately to insure it does not settle below 90” immediately after repair. Each wall is three layers of material, starting from the inside of the wall with a ¾” sheet of plywood, a ¼” sheet of compressed rubber and then an outside sheeting of ½” plywood. Each of these layers must be removed and replaced on selected damaged segments. Internal supports for the walls are 6”x8” treated posts inside the walls. In the rare case that this post will can longer be used to attach the layers of plywood, that section of post must also be replaced. Specific walls are identified on the attached drawing and will have a spray painted “X” on the actual facility. New materials must be replaced in an identical manner, only in reverse, to complete the repairs. Because of the lead contamination, none of the removed material will leave the range site. Range personnel will instruct workers on where to leave contaminated sand or plywood/rubber. All tools, equipment, labor and construction material will be supplied by the contractor. Any or all lead particles that are collected during the completion of this contract will be placed in a location provided by Range Control on site. |
