Patrick Henry Synthetic Turf Field and Outdoor Play Features - City of Alexandria

The Patrick Henry School, Recreation Center and Outdoor Space Plan includes space for a large athletic field. This project funds one full size synthetic turf rectangular field with diamond field overlay to replace two natural grass rectangular and diamond fields being displaced as a part of school construction at the Patrick Henry site. The single synthetic field is intended to meet demand for field use upon completion of the new Patrick Henry Recreation Center and K-8 school. Synthetic turf fields create year-round playing surfaces that increase the window of use from eight to twelve months a year, reduce environmental impacts, and lower operating costs. Athletic field renovations support the well-being of children, youth and families by providing safe and reliable play spaces that promote active lifestyles. Athletic field lights are not included in this project but may be introduced at a later date through community enegagement and City Council approval. Furthermore, a school Pre-K playground is anticipated to be deliverd with the improvements in FY2023. As of June 27, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2023-2032 CIP. Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction FY 2023. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2023. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
