Booker Building Adaptive Reuse/Rehabilitation

The Booker Building is a rentable events space owned and managed by the Town of Altavista. The building is located within English Park and is connected to the downtown via a pedestrian bridge. Built in 1908, the 4,900 sq. ft. building operated as Booker’s Garage until the Town purchased the facility in 1994. The facility is underutilized, so the Town commissioned a feasibility study to determine the most suitable uses for the Booker Building. The study can be obtained at: https://www.altavistava.gov/images/Documents/Booker-Building-use-feasibility-study.pdf The report identified five (5) priority uses: • event center and rental • brewery or tasting room • restaurant • parks and recreation programming • farmer’s market. The Town is seeking redevelopment partners who recognize the unique opportunity to bring new life to this building that occupies a highly visible sight in English Park. In requesting proposal from the development community, the town hopes to receive proposals, which will provide a desirable market driven use will ensuring consistency with the surrounding neighborhood use and character. The Town also seeks to identify funding sources that could be used to develop and sustain the project.
