Description | West Lake Houston Parkway parallel bridge structures across San Jacinto River built in 1990/1992 with 32 spans, each 118 feet in length, totaling 3776 feet in length experienced significant scour during Hurricane Harvey. The riverbed at Westfork of San Jacinto River scoured significantly at Bents 25, 26, 27 and 28 because of heavy currents. This resulted in reduced foundation capacity where drilled shafts were significantly exposed. The four Bents (25- 28) at the southbound structure will be retrofitted with a cast-in-place tie beam and steel pipe piling to restore foundation capacity. Also, one existing expansion joint at Bent 25 and bearing pads will be replaced which are malfunctioning. |
