Rehabilitation of Montgomery County Bridge 101

The project involves the rehabilitation of Montgomery County Bridge 101, Old Gravel Pike over Swamp Creek. The stone masonry arch structure has three spans which are 23.8 (Span 1) and 34.7 (Spans 2 & 3) long, and has an out-to-out width of 23.5. After the rehabilitation, the bridge which is currently closed, will be reopened to pedestrian and occasional maintenance vehicle traffic. The Pier 2 and Abutment 2 foundations will be underpinned and reinforced concrete collars will be constructed at the base of the substructure units. A reinforced concrete arch slab will be constructed along the extrados of Span 3. A large void in the arch rib of span 3 will be repaired with reinforced concrete. A cementitious spray-on liner will be placed along the intrados of all three spans. All visible surfaces on the interior and exteriorsides of the wingwalls, spandrel walls, ring stones, piers and abutments will be cleaned and re-pointed. The stone masonry on the upstream nose of pier 1 and the downstream nose of pier 2 will be reset. The bituminous pavement will be replaced, and rip rap scour protection will be installed. At the far approach moment slabs with reset stone facing will be constructed and guide rail will be replaced. Bollards will be installed on both approaches to prevent unauthorized vehicular traffic from crossing the bridge.
