Description

This project will rehabilitate the 1888 Building, most recently used as the Senior Center, and repurpose the building to house the Town municipal offices, thus simultaneously saving a building of historical value to the town and providing upgraded, functional and energy-smart facilities to serve the town administration. The project will be accomplished in two phases: Phase 1 is to plan the project, conduct related investigations and surveys, and create architectural and engineering drawings for the refurbishment of the building. Phase 2 includes detailed design and construction using the information and drawings generated by Phase 1. The project involves complete renovation and repurposing of the interior of the building while maintaining the historical aspect of the exterior of the building. The ramp at the back of the building will be removed and replaced with an elevator and stair tower and an alternative entrance; this addition will be tastefully designed to be compatible with and to protect the historic integrity of the property and its environment. The project is funded using Community Preservation Act funds under the provision for preservation of historical resources. Thus, the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation shall be adhered to for the refurbishment and the addition.
