Description

The Corps of Engineers has need of a single firm fixed-price construction contract for channel clearing near the city of Middlesboro, Bell County, KY. The Government’s minimum needs is the complete and safe clearing of the channel. Constructed by the Corps of Engineers in the 1930s, the channel consists of a levee system and a flood channel. The Contractor would be responsible for all materials, labor and equipment needed in order to restore flow capacity of flood protection channel by removing sediment buildup and vegetation from the upper reaches of the channel which currently reduces flow capacity of the system. Last channel clean-out was performed in 2009. The proposed channel clearing will begin just upstream of the Cumberland Ave Bridge and extend approximately 1.2 downstream. Base work will include approximately 3,600 feet of channel with an option for an additional 1,774 feet of channel clearing. Channel clearing work can be performed during the months of June through November due to Kentucky Water constraint. USACE forecasts that half of the work could potentially be completed during 2021 and the other half completed from June through November 2022.
