Description | Replacement Chester Fire and Rescue Station - $12.3 million. Chesterfield County is requesting a bond referendum for Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022. Voters will consider one question to approve key projects for schools, public safety, libraries and parks. An affirmative vote grants the county authority to issue general obligation (GO) bonds to finance a finite list of projects. Design for a three-bay drive-through replacement fire station to house an existing engine, a brush truck, and an ambulance, as well as reserve units. The existing station is 58 years old and was constructed to serve the needs of a volunteer fire company and a much smaller community. The current facility also lacks adequate parking for personnel. Future use for the current site that is being vacated will be considered parallel to the process for the new facility. Should the facility not have a near-term community use, it will likely be sold and redeveloped by the private market. FY1971 - The facility was last renovated to house 24-hour firefighters. FY2022 - Purchase of land and station design is planned. FY2023 - Construction of the replacement station begins. As of May 8, 2023, this project is currently in the FY 2023-2026 CIP. Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction FY 2023-2026. A firm timeline has not been established. The land acquistion portion has just been finalized. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available. |
