North Great Neck/London Bridge/Virginia Beach boulevard Intersection Improvement - PG100546 - City of Virginia Beach

VDOT UPC #115371. This project provides a second southbound left turn lane along North Great Neck Road onto eastbound Virginia Beach Boulevard. Included in this improvement would be lengthening the existing southbound left turn lane so that both lanes consist of 300-feet of storage with an additional 150-feet taper. The improved geometry will require the relocation and reconstruction of the existing median as well as using the existing gore area currently located along the median in the northbound direction. The project will also lengthen the storage of the northbound left turn lane along London Bridge Road onto westbound Virginia Beach Boulevard to a continuous 700-feet of storage. Additionally, the existing pork-chop island (triangleshaped raised island that helps channelize traffic and provides a refuge for pedestrians crossing a roadway) located at the eastbound right turn lane on Virginia Beach Boulevard will be removed and the right turn lane will be realigned and be signal controlled rather than free flow. This project is in included in the City's or County's FY 2023-2028 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of July 27, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
