Description

This project began with the issuance of a 2011 service level evaluation that explored the need for and feasibility of establishing major trunk water mains from which water service can be extended and the existing service potentially improved within an area referred to as Piney Green/US 17 Service Area. The evaluation examined the existing ONWASA water infrastructure along Piney Green Road between its intersections with US 17 and Country Club Road. It also examined the Country Club area to determine if the existing system provides adequate service or if improvements are needed and estimated the value of the ONWASA water infrastructure in this area. Other work relative to the Piney Green water service area has occurred since issuance of the 2011 study. This includes construction and testing of wells north of Piney Green Road in proximity to White Oak High School. Work also included hydraulic modeling to help determine the technical feasibility of extending City water service to the Halltown Road-Piney Green Road area. The most recent work involved design and construction of a project to extend the existing 12-inch waterline at the Commerce Road Extension - Wolf Swamp Road intersection to Thomas Humphrey Road and then down Halltown Road to a point near its intersection with Piney Green Road. This project stalled due to the infrastructure in the Piney Green, Country Club and Sunset area being owned by ONWASA. Recent discussions show a willingness for ONWASA to swap this service area for areas the City serves not currently in the City Limits. This project will improve service to the future development in the Patriot Park area as well. This project is in included in the City of Jacksonville FY 2023-2032 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). As of July 13, 2022, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
