Description | To improve safety and access to the Transit Center and Downtown Mountain View, California, by replacing the existing at-grade crossing at Castro Street with a grade-separated pedestrian underground crossing and constructing a new vehicle connection on Evelyn Avenue to Shoreline Boulevard. The MVTC provides access to the regional transportation network for the residents and is a key transfer point for employees in Mountain View and greater Silicon Valley. It accommodates over 10,000 trips per typical weekday, with services including Caltrain, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail and bus vehicles, the Mountain View Community Shuttle and private company shuttles. The Project goal is to provide a grade-separated pedestrian and bicycle undercrossing of the Caltrain rail tracks and Central Expressway, with safer and more direct connections for these travel modes between the Transit Center, Downtown, and neighborhoods and employment centers to the north and south. |
