Description

As of December 20, 2023, construction on this project started in February 2023 and is currently underway. For UMD GMP-2 has been bid and is being awarded and includes Concrete Foundations and Superstructure, Below Grade Waterproofing, Exterior Glass and Glazing, Underslab Electric and furnish only of major electrical distribution equipment, and underslab plumbing and furnish only of project Chillers. The remaining scope is being bid now and will be awarded out via GMP-3 and GMP-4.  There will be a 100% CD issuance to finalize the bidding for the project. This Request for Proposal (RFP) is for University of Maryland College Park (UMD) to select an experienced Design-Build Contractor ("DBC" or "Contractor") for the design and construction of a 157,000 GSF/87,000 NASF Interdisciplinary Engineering Building (IEB) for the A. James Clark School of Engineering (SoE) on the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) campus. The building is proposed to be six stories (basement and 5 stories above grade) and penthouse and will include offices, laboratories (instructional and research), one seminar room, classrooms, conference rooms, meeting rooms, study space and support spaces. The building will be designed and constructed to be adaptable to address future needs and will be accessed by a new service drive from Chemistry Lane. The building site is located in the Northeast District of campus on the southwest corner of the intersection of Stadium Drive and Paint Branch Drive on Parking Lots EE and H. This highly visible site is located adjacent to the Engineering Laboratory Building and SCUB 4 and across Stadium Drive from the Kim Engineering Building and the E. A. Fernandez IDEA Factory (currently under construction). To prepare the site for the new IEB, the scope of work includes demolition of the Instructional TV Facility and portions of surface parking lots EE and H. The Brendan Iribe Center cooling tower equipment located on the site will be salvaged and stored for relocation to the roof of the IEB. As part of this cooling tower relocation, existing water lines serving the cooling towers from the Brendan Iribe Center will be rerouted to and through the new IEB to connect with the relocated cooling tower equipment. Relocation and rerouting of existing underground utilities on the site will be needed to serve the new IEB, including telecommunications, steam, condensate, domestic water, storm drains and chilled water. Other utilities adjacent to the site, such as gas and electric will be extended to provide new service connections to the IEB. In addition, the existing research solar tracker panel, located in the grass strip between Parking Lots EE and H, will be relocated to the roof of an adjacent building. Once a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) is established, the DBC is at risk for the project cost, project schedule, trade contracts and all construction set forth in the construction documents. Contract Duration: Forty-Two (42) Months (Design NTP to Substantial Completion)
