Knox Bridge Submarine Cable Replacement

The County of Volusia, Department of Public Works, Road & Bridge Division is seeking a single, responsive and responsible bidder for the replacement of the Knox Bridge Submarine cable. The Knox Bridge is located at 50 High Bridge Road, on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, in Section 5, Township 13 South, Range 32 East, Ormond Beach, Florida. The project entails the replacement of a subaqueous cable that provides electric power from one side of the Knox Bridge bascule structure to the other. This cable provides electricity needed to operate the bascule bridge machinery. The existing cable has exceeded its expected lifespan and its replacement is critical to ensure the continued operation of the bridge. Replacement of the cable will require the excavation of a trench from the eastern to the western bascule pier, a distance of approximately 140 feet. The area of excavation will include approximately 0.162 acres of existing unvegetated sand bottom and the removal of approximately 1,300 cubic yards of dredge material. Once the cable has been installed, the dredge material will be replaced and bottom elevations reestablished. Turbidity barriers will be utilized to minimize turbidity during excavation and backfill operations. The lowest responsive and responsible bidder shall be responsible for all applicable permitting, labor, materials, equipment, tools, transportation, services, and incidentals necessary to complete all Work required by the specifications and as shown on the drawings. Term: Total contract time of 250 days.
