Description | The innovative Honors Residential College will increase the number of beds, providing an additional 1400 spaces. These additional beds will accommodate the increase in demand for college students requests for campus housing, students wishing to relocate to campus housing from off-campus, and to minimize the amount of overflow housing. The Honors Residential College will add to the University of Florida's catalog of the most popular living style arrangements for single undergraduate students. However, Housing and Residence Life (HRL) believes in providing an Environment for Academic Success. Providing a supportive environment is important to enable students to succeed in the classroom and to grow as individual, HRL is proposing to design a combination of music practice quarters, wall space for art and display, opulent communal kitchens, and support for commuting students. The additional size of the Honors Residential College also allows for some diversity in the residential unit type. Though most of the beds for this building will serve first year students with traditional housing (shared doubles) and wet core bathrooms, the program also anticipates some housing for upper division students. By creating as much functional space as possible, the hall space of the first floor of the Honors Residential building will also be utilized as locker space available for temporary lease for upper class students or those who live off campus to ease their commute. Housing staff is responsible for the educational programming, maintenance, and custodial operations of the campus housing program. The following trades are requested for sub-contractors.
